Statutory Text

(1.1) Every person who, under this Act, submits a false or inaccurate document or electronic document, or displays, presents or surrenders a document or electronic document that is fictitious, an imitation or altered, is guilty of an offence and on conviction, in addition to any other penalty or punishment to which the person may be liable, is liable to a fine of not less than $400 and not more than $5,000 or to imprisonment for a term of not more than 30 days, or to both, and in addition the person’s driver’s licence or vehicle permit may be suspended for a period of not more than six months. 2019, c. 15, Sched. 18, s. 3 (1).

A set fine is not the same as a court sentencing range. Standard totals include the surcharge and $5 service costs where a fixed set fine is listed. Court penalties and extra costs may differ.

No-set-fine entries and variable formulas remain uncalculated. A blank amount does not mean there is no penalty.

Demerit Points

Unassigned — not zero

not mapped — not zero. A general provision match does not settle the result for a particular licence or conviction.

Driving Record and Insurance

A driving conviction may affect insurance even when it carries no demerit points. Insurance treatment depends on the conviction and the insurer. A charge-specific insurance assessment has not yet been added to this record.

An early resolution that includes a guilty plea may still leave a conviction on your driving record. That conviction may affect your insurance rates, even if the fine or demerit points are reduced.
